Who is entitled to a free Eye Test?
You may be eligible for a free NHS eye test if you are:
- Under 16 years old (or under 19 in full-time education)
- Over 60 years old
- Diagnosed as diabetic
- A diagnosed glaucoma patient
- Aged 40 or over and have a direct family history of Glaucoma
- Receiving certain benefits such as Income Support, Universal Credit, or Pension Credit Guarantee.

Paul Campbell MCOptom
A fellow Carrickfergus resident, our lead optometrist Paul Campbell BSc MCOptom has many years experience working in several opticians in Northern Ireland. He now operates his own independent opticians in Carrickfergus – his home town.
He is fully registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) since February 2014 (GOC No. 01-27883) and has years of clinical experience in primary eye care.
Paul provides thorough, patient-focused assessments and takes time to explain findings and treatment options clearly. He is committed to delivering safe, professional eye care in line with UK optical regulations, ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their care.

The opticians is located in the historic Lancasterian Street in the heart of Carrickfergus – 7 Lancasterian Street, Carrickfergus, BT38 7AB. It is located just past the Carrickfergus Civic Centre and Museum and DeCourcy Centre and a short distance from the famous Carrickfergus Castle.
