NI PEARS: How we can help with eye issues at Carrick Eyecare

If so, the Northern Ireland Primary Eyecare Assessment and Referral Service (NI PEARS) could be your solution. Here’s everything you need to know in simple terms:

NI PEARS is a service provided by Carrick Eyecare in Carrickfergus.

It’s designed to help people who suddenly develop eye problems, like redness, pain, vision changes, or feeling like something’s stuck in their eye.

If you experience any of these sudden eye issues, NI PEARS might be right for you:

  • Red eyes
  • Eye pain or discomfort
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Seeing flashes or floaters
  • Feeling like something’s in your eye

At Carrick Eyecare, we offer NI PEARS appointments during normal hours, and we’ll see you within 48 hours. To use NI PEARS, you need to be registered with a GP in Northern Ireland.

During your NI PEARS appointment, our optometrist will:

  • Talk to you about your eye symptoms and medical history
  • Do a thorough eye exam to check your eyes
  • Give you advice, treatment, or refer you to a doctor or hospital if needed

If your eye problem is minor and not serious, our optometrist can usually help you right there. They might give you eye drops to use or a prescription for medicine from your pharmacist or GP.

After your appointment, our optometrist might ask you to come back for a follow-up visit to make sure your eyes are getting better.
